My time as in intern gave me an invaluable insight into how the travel industry works, and provided me with a fantastic grounding basis with which to start my PR career. If you have any pre-conceived ideas that being an intern means doing coffee runs and photocopying then dismiss them straight away! I was treated as one of the team and given the opportunity to get stuck into numerous projects, some of which I was able to completely own. As an intern at Hills Balfour I got the chance to work across a range of clients and was able to not only get a good grasp of the travel media and the type of content that is required for different publications, but also developed my writing and research skills. I was also able to work closely with the Sales & Marketing teams, which helped me to understand the importance of developing B2B relationships and increasing trade sales. Plus, there was a constant supply of snacks and the after work drinks were cracking!
