Bermuda Tourism Authority launches immersive ‘House of Bermuda’ event in London

Last week, Bermuda Tourism Authority, (BTA), the official destination marketing organisation of Bermuda, invited members of the public to the debut of ‘House of Bermuda’. London’s latest immersive experience took consumers on a journey to discover the enchantment and mystery of Bermuda without having to set foot on a plane, despite being just a 7-hour direct flight from London.

It took place in The Apartment of The Hoxton, Southwark, from 16-18 March, where consumers were invited to join us to explore the very best of Bermuda, a 21-square mile archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean. House of Bermuda featured unique pop ups, bringing local Bermudians to the forefront of this immersive event, showcasing local experts across cuisine, storytelling, sports and conservation, inviting consumers to experience Bermuda like never before.

The Apartment was divided into four immersive rooms with local experts available to enhance their experience. Guests started their journey by learning the art of the “Dark n Stormy” with Bermudian bartender Tene Dowling before heading to ‘The Pantry’ to taste traditional culinary delights by Bermudian chef, Richard Zuill including traditional dishes such as fish chowder and the iconic fish finger sandwich. For those wanting something a little healthier, foraging tour expert, Doreen Williams was on hand to offer her freshly made organic juices and smoothies using local Bermudian ingredients.

The ‘Bermuda Stories’ zone was transformed into a tranquil space for guests to put their feet up and enjoy stories from ocean advocate, Weldon Wade discussing the importance of ocean conservation and Bermuda’s efforts in protecting our oceans on a global scale. Joining Weldon was local ambassador and entrepreneur, Kristin White who shared her stories on what it means to be Bermudian with inspiring tales from the island. Those that fancied a bit of action were invited to step into the ‘Club House’, an interactive zone showcasing Bermuda’s sporting prowess. Guests were able to try their hand at mini golf with a chance to win a seven-night trip to Bermuda or put their VR tennis skills to the test, transporting themselves to this “Bermudaful” island along the way.

The day was rounded off with an indulging spa treatment in our Custom Spa inspired by the stunning Grotto Bay Caves. Guests were able to relax and recharge with a 15-minute private spa treatment in partnership with Grotto Bay Beach Resort & Spa whilst enjoying stunning visuals of Bermuda and Grotto Bay Cave Spa.

Consumers almost forgot their whereabouts as we transported them to this Bermudaful island for the day.

Tracy Berkeley, CEO of Bermuda Tourism Authority, also attended the event and comments ‘Following our successful reintroduction into the UK market and my visit last November, we are thrilled to be coming back to the UK, this time bringing home with us.  Just in time for the new daily British Airways flight coming back online, our illustrious partners will be showcasing our island home and recreating what makes Bermuda so special. Bermuda’s ties to the UK have been a key part of our culture since our founding in 1609, making it a valued and treasured relationship which we are looking forward to building on.’
